Massive Northern Pike will smash streamers, top waters, and basically any fly you can hit the water with. The largest Northern Pike at Brabant Lodge will inhale the right fly almost everyday. Many trophy Northern Pike over 42 inches are caught every year at Brabant Lodge on fly rods. But it doesn't stop at 42 inches! Northern Pike up to 50+ inches have been caught on fly rods many times here at Brabant Lodge. Our largest Northern Pike are well known for eating flies. Trust us, you will never be at a disadvantage with your fly rod in hand!
Fly rods between 8wt and 12wt are recommended for trophy Northern Pike fly fishing. We also recommend 40-60 lbs. straight fluorocarbon tied to a 9-12 inch wire bite guard. These large rods and heavy leaders are necessary because of the large patches of weeds found in our waters. The largest Northern Pike are always hooked in these thick weed patches, but moving them out of the weeds and into your boat on an 8wt can be near impossible. If you are looking to catch the largest Northern Pike that swim in our waters, we recommend a 10-12wt rod.
Full floating and intermediate sink tip fly fishing lines are recommended for Northern Pike fishing.
Although we recommend specific flies, we encourage our guests to experiment with their fly selections based on what they are comfortable fishing.
Arctic Grayling offer a fantastic challenge in our fast moving waters, on both nymphs and dry flies. Hard fighting fish and fast moving water are the definition of Arctic Grayling fly fishing at Brabant Lodge. Bring your 4, 5, or 6 wt and have a ball swinging caddis flies, prince nymphs and royal coachmen for the most beautiful fish in the Northwest Territories.
Full floating fly fishing lines are recommended for Arctic Grayling fishing. 3x to 7x tippet works best for Arctic Grayling fishing at Brabant Lodge. Strike indicators and very small split shot weights are recommended for nymphing in deeper, fast moving waters.
Although we recommend specific flies, we encourage our guests to experiment with their selections based on what they are comfortable fishing.
Believe it or not, even Walleye can be had on a fly at Brabant Lodge. Although the most difficult of our species to catch on a fly rod, it is a rewarding and fun experience catching a fish that some would say is impossible to trick into eating a fly. Our Walleye are a great average size and travel in huge schools, making for exciting fishing everyday!
Full floating and intermediate sink tip fly fishing lines are recommended for Walleye fishing. 5-8 wt rods and 0x to 3x tippet are recommended for Walleye fly fishing at Brabant Lodge. We also recommend 6-12 inch bite guard while fly fishing for Walleye as many trophy Northern Pike are caught while Walleye fishing.
Although we recommend specific flies, we encourage our guests to experiment with their selections based on what they are comfortable fishing.
